“The owners spared nothing in their renovation of this 500+ year old historic building and their efforts shine through in every detail. We just wanted to sit and admire each detail. The staff were incredibly warm and helpful and made sure our stay was perfect. Julia met us at the parking lot and walked us to the hotel providing details as we walked while a college brought in our luggage. The staff made reservations for us even when they weren’t needed and made sure we took an umbrella with us. At night they fix your bed, leave a candy, and close the curtains. Each staff member was exceptional. The location couldn’t have been more central, within meters there are bars, restaurants, shops, and wonderful city sights. As well as making our guests feel at home as soon as they step into one of our rooms, we want to ensure that everyone gets the full experience – and that includes the culinary offering. Our globally renewed chef Jakob Jerala makes sure that he uses only the best ingredients from Slovenia.
“We ordered Chef Jakob’s dinner for our second night. We knew not the price nor the menu but put our trust in him. We knew that he would be using all organic ingredients sourced from the local Slovenian countryside. The experience turned out to be a Michelin level experience.
At 7 pm we were greeted by headwaiter/ sommelier Luka, seated nicely and told what to expect during the upcoming culinary experience. The next 3 hours were sublime with each course paired with a Slovenian wine. We slowly worked our way through nine incredible offerings and five select wines. We took pictures of each course and should have written down the descriptions. Three of the non forgettable tastes were the bear prosciutto, the trout carpaccio, and the most tender beef.
Chef Jakob greeted us at the meal’s completion and we gave him a standing ovation. He is working toward the organic certification before entering the Michelin race. We feel his dinner was of Michelin standard. And the cost was worth every cent. We paid around 200 euros for the complete feast. “From the moment of arrival, the hotel concierge is well organised – having ordered a taxi from the station to the pick up point where their courteous staff were waiting to help with the luggage and the short walk to the hotel. I stayed in the Little Dragon room which is one of the best boutique hotel rooms i’ve ever stayed in. It’s beautifully furnished and has a huge bath tub to relax in. The cute terrace is the perfect spot for people watching and watching the old town come alive. When you want to switch off, you can close the windows and at the touch of a switch the electronic blinds come down. The bed is super comfy with soft, good quality bed linen. It has all the small touches that add to the experience such as an excellent coffee making machine, a free mini bar with local soft drink products, a sofa to lounge on with a TV and another TV that you can watch form the bath. “Breakfast starts with different breads, pastries, spreads and cheese along with an a la carte dish you can create yourself for the chef to make, juice and fresh coffee. The service is very quick and the friendly waiter always made time for a chat.
On the lower ground floor there is a spa for private use with an anti gravity bed, sauna, steam room and sensory shower. I highly recommend the bed for jet lack or meditating as it deeply relaxes you.

“The staff are what makes this hotel. Each and every one of them. From the moment you check in they make you feel welcome. They attend to your every need with a smile and go way beyond what you would ordinarily expect – I don’t usually leave reviews but this group of staff deserve a special mention. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, the rooms are finished in quality and style. Marko and his wife have great taste in interior design. Food is wonderful as well and the breakfast that is included is a fantastic taste of Slovenia! Again, here, their chef takes note of all your likes and dislikes and caters his dishes to you. The mini bar is re-stocked every day free of charge. Bikes are available to explore the city.
