Right angles are simply overrated.

This comfortable double room with a spacious balcony has a slightly unusual floor plan, as it is situated in a corner that had to be removed in 1960 to accommodate the growing traffic here. It boasts a splendid view of old Ljubljana, the river, and the castle, and features the beautifully restored original parquet floor from the early 20^th century, together with a bright, modern bathroom.

How did Zlata ladjica get its odd shape?

Zlata ladjica took on its characteristic shape when Ljubljana decided to open the Cobblers’ Bridge to traffic. One corner got in the way of the car traffic here, so they simply cut it off. In 1960, the wall of the building thus became parallel with the nearby Ljubljanica river, but the roof kept its original shape and still reaches over the building’s floor plan in this special corner.

Today, it’s difficult to imagine cars, buses, and before them trams running through the old city core. The city authorities already discussed closing traffic here back in 1976, but it was not until 2007 that pedestrians and cyclists took over the streets of old Ljubljana.
